The following is a message from foster parent Carol Eiffert dated November 2011:
“In May, our family was over-joyed to have Ada return to our home. Ada has been considered part of our family since she was first brought to the US for surgery by Healing the Children SW when she was only three years old. [She was severely burned at 18 months of age over her entire body.] Ada has been followed by medical teams that travel to Guatemala as well as returning to the US on two other occasions for donated surgeries. She recently graduated from high school and had always hoped to return to the United States to visit her family here and receive help for her burn scars on her face. While she was here, her story was featured on the front page of the Albuquerque Journal as well as the Sandia Labs Newspaper, Our deep appreciation to Albuquerque Surgery Center for allowing her surgery there and to Drs. William Loutfy and Tes Balcomb for improving the function of her hands as well as making her face beautiful.

We were invited to take over their one operating room to help children needing plastic surgery. Surgeons George Hoer and David Oberdorfer were joined by anesthesiologist Gary Doolittle, nurses Kate Doolittle, Allison Godchaux, Laura Weisgerber, physical therapist Susan Doolittle, student Julia, and 3 to 5 local Ecuadoran medical school residents. Our contact was an amazing multi-tasker, Maritza Orellana. Bobbye Krehbiel served as trip administrator. Terrific hosts, special families, and a wonderful surgical team.
