Dr. Polly Primm with Vaporizer

Anesthesiologist Dr. Polly Primm with a mother and child.

Dr. Primm, one of the anesthesiologists who accompanied the team to Santiago Texacuangos,  is holding a sevoflurane vaporizer which she borrowed from a local Albuquerque hospital and assembled on one of the machines at Hospital La Divina Providencia during a surgical trip in March 2012.  Using sevoflurane over isoflurane is highly preferred for children, but unfortunately the vaporizer had to be returned.

Should any reader  come across a sevo vaporizer that we could give to this local hospital, please contact Bobbye at healingthechildren@comcast.net.

It will be greatly appreciated.

A Story of Stamina…

ReinaReina, age ten,  lives on a small island off the pacific coast of El Salvador.   Despite her cleft lip and palate she is doing well in school and is reportedly a good student.   She and her mother had to travel using one boat and three buses to arrive at Hospital La Divina Providencia where a visiting plastic surgeon, Dr. Bill Loutfy,  was providing surgery.   It took them all day to return home the next morning.

Our most sincere thanks go to the HTC Southwest team for their week’s work March 10 – 17.  We encourage readers to visit www.healingthechildrensw.org/volunteers/ and thank the volunteers listed there.
