Ada Returns to New Mexico
November 2011. The following is a message from foster parent Carol Eiffert:
"In May, our family was over-joyed to have Ada return to our home. Ada has been considered part of our family since she was first brought to the US for surgery by Healing the Children SW when she was only three years old. [She was severely burned at 18 months of age over her entire body.] Ada has been followed by medical teams that travel to Guatemala as well as returning to the US on two other occasions for donated surgeries. She recently graduated from high school and had always hoped to return to the United States to visit her family here and receive help for her burn scars on her face. While she was here, her story was featured on the front page of the Albuquerque Journal as well as the Sandia Labs Newspaper, Our deep appreciation to Albuquerque Surgery Center for allowing her surgery there and toDrs. William Loutfy and Tes Balcomb for improving the function of her hands as well as making her face beautiful.
The inner beauty and joy of this young woman is an inspiration to all who meet her. She has gone through so much and remains grateful to the many doctors and medical professionals who have helped her through the years. The photo shows Ada when she first arrived after a 5 day (yes, 5 days!) trip on the bus to Albuquerque from Guatemala. She has a special bond with her foster Sister, Holly Wehr and her family who were ready for a big hug. Thank God, Healing the Children will help her fly home in December-in hours rather than days!
Healing the Children has made it possible for Ada to lead an exceptional life. We look forward with anticipation to all that she will pursue and accomplish when she returns to her native Guatemala and of course, we look forward to her return someday."
