What Is He Thinking?
Flavio was in dire need of heart surgery. His grandmother put him on an airplane in Lima, Peru at 4am accompanied by an Airline Ambassador volunteer he didn’t know to travel miles to a strange city. His mother could not explain as she is deaf and mute.
His host mother in Albuquerque, Pamela Zanios, said he woke up two weeks later in a Presbyterian Hospital room surprised that he had a long ugly scar on his chest. Thanks to an exceptional surgeon Dr. Carl Lagerstrom, and team of heart specialists, as well as a strong urge to see more of life with his host father and two brothers, Flavio was out of there in 5 days, and back home in Peru after only 5 weeks.
When we think about it, we can only marvel at the generosity of a community.
