Celebrating 45 Years!

Healing the Children (HTC) has been providing the gift of healing for 45 years. Since 1979, HTC has donated quality medical care for more than 320,805 children from over 100 countries worldwide. Passion is at the heart of all we do, and we continually look for innovative ways to renew this purpose and vision. We are forever grateful to the thousands of medical, professional, host family, administrative, and technical volunteers who have given their time and talent to facilitate our work.

A Look at 2025

2025 has gotten off to a terrific start with multiple chapters sending Medical Teams Abroad. This year, more than 18 medical teams are working on international projects. We continue to provide quality medical care in Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Bolivia, Ukraine, Uganda, Kenya, and Nepal. Our IMAP (International Medical Assistance Program) will again sponsor four children from Uganda (with critical heart conditions) to travel to India for surgery. The International Inbound Program is on hold (pending international travel conditions), but currently has a child from Pakistan in the US. Local programs continue through our 15 chapters and 19 states.

Back from Honduras

Healing the Children Illinois/Indiana recently returned from a medical mission to Catacamas, Honduras, from February 15 through 22, 2025.

Here is a look at what they accomplished:

  • 60 children received medical care

  • 46 surgical procedures

  • 14 non-surgical procedures

  • The value of donated medical services rendered: $400,000

Comments by Dr. Lynch, Honduran Hospital Chief Medical Officer:  "I am glad everyone is

happy with the results of this mission.  We are so grateful to see the pleased faces of our

dear patients and their parents. Thank you for blessing our children”

Comment by numerous Honduran families:  “Un Mil Gracias”

Comment by every single HTC team member: ”Best medical mission we’ve ever been on.

Can’t wait till next year!

2024 Doubling Our Impact in Two Years

In 2024, our 14 chapters continued to work worldwide, donating quality medical care for 5,207 children.

This included:

  • 3,138 - Medical Teams Abroad - Surgical & Non-Surgical

  • 1,990 - US & International Special Projects

  • 72 - US Domestic Programs

  • 1 - International Inbound

  • 6 - International Medical Assistance

HTC Medical Teams traveled to Bolivia, Colombia, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Honduras, Kenya, Peru, Mexico, Nepal, and Tanzania. In addition, HTCWI, through our IMAP (International Medical Assistance Program), partnered with a nonprofit to assist four children from Uganda with heart conditions in traveling to India for surgery.

Texas is our 15th HTC Chapter.

Healing the Children Texas is the 15th chapter of HTC. HTCTX was created through the commitment of a Medical Teams Abroad program centered in Neiva, Columbia. The Neiva Medical Team has operated through HTCFL/GA for 30 years. Over the years, the Neiva, Columbia program has grown from 20 team members to over 100, with some clinical staff coming from Spain, England, Guatemala, Brazil, and other countries, depending on the year. The program started as an oral cleft surgical mission but now includes operative and non-operative care for children. It has provided thousands of children with free surgical care, speech therapy, plastic surgery, and club foot and hip dysplasia correction. This May will mark their 30th anniversary trip. To raise funds for their trip, they will host a golf tournament on April 12th, 2025, to offset the many expenses in the country. Learn more at: https://clubs-scrubs.squarespace.com/donate

Welcome to HTC

Roberto Fajardo, PhD, has opened the Healing the Children Texas chapter, making it the 15th chapter of HTC. This chapter leads the Healing the Children Neiva, Colombia Medical Team, which has operated through HTCFL/GA for 30 years. The May 2025 trip to Neiva will mark this a significant accomplishment.

Thanks and Best Wishes

Denise Malsky has worked with HTC New Jersey for over 30 years. She recently retired and looks forward to spending more time with her three grandchildren and enjoying her chef son's cooking. We will fondly remember and celebrate Denise's contributions to HTC, especially through her work with the international inbound and local programs. She worked tirelessly on the HTCNJ annual gala and served on the National Executive Committee. Congrats Denise!

Certified Nurses Day

Certified Nurses Day, is observed every year on March 19 that honors the dedication, commitment, and skills of certified nurses who compete for excellence in caring for patients.

This day shows how important nursing certification is in raising healthcare standards and how dedicated those dedicated to excellence in their profession are.
